I enjoyed the party last evening at the Shelter Surf Shop. The videos presented have alot of possibilities in terms of opening the minds of business owners whose livelihood would be enriched by increased tourism in Long Beach if the Breakwater were removed and the waves allowed to return. Of course there is always perhaps a need for the Pacific Fleet to again need a protected harbor, and perhaps that is what is on the minds of the legislators in addition to the cost of the project. What is the condition of the marine life in that area protected by the Breakwater? Is there any research being done on that aspect of it?

Thanks for coming! The Long Beach beaches are connected to the LA River, which connects to the streets of many cities for miles. All of this comes down into Long Beach and is trapped by the breakwater. After a storm the state of the beaches is poor and deemed unsafe for humans, (and animals) due to bacteria levels. With a reconfiguration of the Breakwall Long Beach and the marine life wouldn’t be trapped into the mess.
