Celebrating International Surfing Day

What it is
A film/video contest focusing on the removal of the 2.5 mile long breakwater in Long Beach, California. Entries can be any style, ie; Comedic, fictional, documentary, etc. Emphasis should be placed on an engaging, entertaining, and informative message on why the breakwater should be removed and waves restored to the Long Beach shores. Winning submissions will be posted at LBSurfrider.org, YouTube, and screened at the Art Theater in Long Beach on June 19, 2010, 12-2pm.

Categories & Prizes
There are two categories: PSA (public service announcement), and Shorts.

PSA: Total running time of 1 minute or less, not including any credits. 1st place receives $500. Honorable mention(s) get sponsor prizes*, TBA. What we are aiming for is something that goes viral on the internet – a short entertaining message reaching the most viewers. 
*In years past, our sponsor prizes have included gift certificates, surf art, T-shirts, surfboards, and more.
Shorts: 3 to 10 minutes in length. 1st place receives $1000, 2nd place $500, Honorable mention(s) get sponsor prizes, TBA. This category offers the opportunity to dig deeper into this complex and sometimes controversial subject.

The Sponsor of this Contest is The Surfrider Foundation, Long Beach Chapter, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  Entry fees are tax deductible. See our website for mission statement, contact info, and LB Breakwater information.

Entry Fees
$20 entry fee, or proof of Surfrider Foundation membership. Entrants may submit one of each category (Short and PSA) under one fee/membership.  Two paid submissions per person/group are permitted.

Deadlines
Entries should be postmarked by May 31, 2010.
