{mosimage}

The Surfrider Foundation's Long Beach Chapter had a major success this past week at the June 17th Long Beach City Council meeting. The City voted to move forward on a contract to prepare the Reconnaissance Study (on the economic benefits of reconfiguring the LB Breakwater).

Breakwater Reconnaissance Study Moves Forward!

{mosimage}At the Long Beach City Council Meeting on Tuesday July 24, 2007, Council members voted 7-1 in favor of allowing up to $100,000 funding for a breakwater reconnaissance study.  The money would come from the tideland funds, which are City of Long Beach revenue reserved for coastal projects.  This is a major victory after the council members voted in favor of asking federal government for a breakwater study two years ago.  Now, we can move forward with the reconnaissance study and continue on the long process to "Sink the Breakwater".  Thank you for those who showed up at the meeting to show your support.
